Rubric for World Literature Term Paper

1.       Length: 5-7 pages in MLA format. Pay particular attention to citation!

2.       Contents to include a focus on literature, not the personal lives of the author/s beyond what clearly has bearing on the literature being described.

3.       The emphasis of the paper should be on the significant contributions made by the body of literature (If your topic is the Old Testament, for instance, you might discuss the degree to which it has influenced other authors, our legal system, other religions, etc.)

4.       Use the “Writing for Assessment—Six Point Rubric” to guide your paper.

Timeline

1.       Select a topic of interest to you. It may be an author (i.e., Rabelais) or a period of literature (i.e., Hippie Lit) or a topic within Literature (Early Feminist Literature). ALL TOPICS must be approved in advance by the instructor! Due Thursday, April 29. (Recommendation: Pick a topic you already have read a good deal about so that you do not need to read texts to complete this assignment.)

2.       Research:  Dig into your subject. Discover far more data than you will present. Become knowledgeable! Keep records of where you find what. Keep up with your citations. Due 5/6.

4.       First Draft: 5/14

5.       Final Draft: 5/21
